It’s Saturday night. The gang's hyped, the tickets to the top Bollywood party in Toronto are in your inbox. But right before the Uber arrives, the age old question creeps in: “Do I really look cool enough for this?”

Look, you are not alone. Everyone wants to be cool. To put a definition to it is to maintain calm and composure. But wait, Calm and Composure at a PARTY? With the big speakers, the flashing lights, and the pre-booked table that keeps yelling when their favourite song plays, where do you find calm and composure? Well here calm and composure is purely visual. Let me Explain!

We decided to curate an easy batch of pointers for you to “UP YOUR COOL GAME” at your next club visit.

1. What You Wear Matters

ree

As the quote goes, “The way we dress affects the way we think, feel, act & react.” and it couldn’t be more true.

Wearing those awesome outfits and accessories that make you feel like a million bucks.

You can look at a piece of paper and think it’s something to write on or consider it trash and dispose of it.

How you look at things matters.

Starting off with some basics:

  • Your fit should be clean, not overdressed. You don't need to try too hard. Ditch the 2 extra chains, the big earrings with hoops shaped like a peacock or that Rick and Morty themed chest bag. (Although that sounds dope ngl).

  • Flip the script and wear that monochrome outfit, or that simple party dress. Remember, trying hard is a die hard.

  • Now sneakers are fine, as long as they are clean and neat looking.

  • Accessorize in a way that is consistent with your outfit or even if you are going into a bit of abstract territory, make sure one can figure out what you did is intentional yet cool.

2. When I say Act Cool, I mean…

ree

  • They say “Confidence is the key to Success”. And yeah you can argue that sometimes it looks stupid but so what? You gotta ACT cool to be cool.

  • Keep your posture in check, make sure you are making decent eye contact with people (but not too much that they feel extendedly observed).

  • Smile when your eyes meet someone else’s. Give a smile to the bartender, or that stranger you accidentally vibed with during your ”Naagin Dance” routine. Remember, what goes around, comes around.

  • Oh and also don’t be hugging the wall all night with a drink in your hand. Move around, dance, and have approachable body language.

Remember cool people look like they’re having fun, not like they’re here to watch people. Body Language takes you a long way, even longer than bottle service.

3. Am I a Disco Dancer?

ree

This here, ladies and gentlemen, is an example of a bad question to ponder on at a party.

  • You don’t have to be all and know all of the dance steps, you can simply nod or bounce to the music too (However it is recommended that you have a few steps on your mind)

  • Don’t forget the point of it all is to express that you are having fun.

    But please!!!

  • Be respectful of the people enjoying around you, don’t be creepy, hands to yourself unless it’s consensual. Make sure you blend in the vibe rather than disrupt.

4. Social Moves

ree
  • Whether you are with your squad or by yourself, it is important to look approachable.

  • Having a few laughs and exchanging compliments goes a long way in feeling connected to people. Remember to not be creepy.

  • Everyone is there to have fun, the definition of it may differ from person to person.

  • Respect people’s spaces and just enjoy.

5. Please Don’t…

ree

  • Be one of those people who wears shades indoors for no reason. Unless it’s a statement piece.

  • And you know how there is this one person repeatedly going up to the DJ booth with requests? Yeah, DON’T be that person.

  • A good rule of thumb is to drink responsibly. But if you are in the “Party Like There’s No Tomorrow” phase, don’t get sloppy drunk before midnight. Because the best part of the night is still left and you don’t want to miss your favourite songs

At the end of the day, looking cool isn’t about your expensive outfits or knowing every Bollywood step. It’s about blending with the vibe, carrying yourself with confidence, and enjoying as a community.

ree

The crowd remembered the person who smiled, danced and shared the fun, not the one hugging the wall in the corner. So take your time, wear what hypes you up, and remember, being Cool is an energy, not a flex.

Next time you roll up to a club night, keep these pointers in mind.
