American music and entertainment magazine "Billboard" is set to open doors to their headquarters in Mumbai in 2026.

This initiative promises to refresh the Indian music scene. With a strong emphasis on honoring and amplifying South Asian culture, Billboard India is set to build a platform that resonates deeply with the industry professionals and audiences alike.

Billboard CEO Mike Van

"India's Music Scene is one of the most dynamic and culturally rich in the world. We're thrilled to recognize its extraordinary diversity." said Billboard CEO Mike Van.

Billboard India is not a minor music publication. It brings about a pivotal shift for Indian music and its impact around the globe. This platform will serve as an important link connecting artists, fans, and industry professionals.

This initiative is especially exciting for the South Asian community in Toronto, which seeks genuine experiences that mirror their cultural identity.

Why India and Why Now?

  • Hindi is now the 3rd most streamed music language worldwide, after English and Spanish

  • Arijit Singh ranked among Spotify's top 15 artists globally in 2023

  • Alka Yagnik was the most streamed artist on YouTube, that's more than Bad Bunny or Taylor Swift

  • Indian-origin global stars like Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon are headlining Coachella, selling out U.S. arenas, and dominating charts

Why is this a big deal?

Concert crowd silhouetted, arms raised, phones recording; foggy stage with bright lights. Energetic and lively atmosphere.

This isn't one of those copy-paste expansions, Billboard India is partnering up with Other Side Ventures, backed by Priyanka Khimani, bringing in the cultural and legal efficiency to the table. With that, they will:

  • Ensure that Billboard has their finger on the cultural nerve of India.

  • Launch official Indian music charts, powered by streaming and sales data across languages.

  • Deliver original content and editorials like artist spotlights, interviews, and regional charts.

  • Launch Billboard awards and live event plugs in India.

  • Put a global spotlight on regional language media and pop culture.

"It will be refreshing for India to have one unifying voice to measure and highlight all the growth and success happening right now." - said Priyanka Khimani
